One afternoon in the beginning of the year, my mum said “Sya, you know since you’re surrounded by people from everywhere, why don’t you take individual photos of people from different origins and make an album of it?” and I thought why not and so it’s 5 weeks to the end of the year and I just picked up the idea yesterday.
I came to school yesterday and got people; some of my closest friends, a few in my grade, some I barely talk to and some I don’t even talk to passing by, to stand in front of a wall with one serious face and one smiling. You’ll find some really big genuine smiles in here.
Since half of these people hold an American or Canadian passport, half of these people’s nationality are not the country(ies) I put beside their names. For them, the country(ies) I put beside their names are countries of their origin or roots that they want to represent. Lots of these people are third culture kids so you can say they are citizens of the world.
To have lived in 4 different countries and gone to different international schools has made me appreciate the diversity around me so I wanted to share with the world the exotic, vibrant and unique faces I’ve been surrounded with. These are faces of teenagers from every corner of the World, from all around Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South & East Asia, North America, South America, all the way to Oceania, and a few biracials. All ranging from tan, to Caucasian, to a hijabi, to blonde hair, to ones with an afro, to a pierced ear, to thin peach lips, you name it.
So here are 45 different people all with different character and shape from 35 different origins, and I hope these different faces make you smile and intrigue you as much as it intrigues me.
